2013 Women's World Championship Round 1
It was a great weekend for the Miton Top Trial Team rider, Becky Cook, as she recorded her first ever Grand Prix win at the first round of the 2013 Women’s World Trials Championship
held in Sant Julia de Loria, Andorra.
The course consisted of two laps of eighteen sections over a twenty kilometre lap in extreme heat and high altitude. Starting in front of her main rivals, Emma Bristow and Sandra Gomez, Becky set out confidently and looked very settled. She was the first rider to complete many of the most difficult hazards but continued to push on and ride her own trial. Unknown to Becky her score of twenty five for the first lap put her in third position, three marks behind Gomez and ten behind Bristow.
Becky pushed on hard on the second lap as she knew time was going to be tight. She improved her lap score by three to finish the trial on forty seven marks. Riding back to the start/finish area Becky felt fairly happy with how her day had gone and hoped it would be enough for a good result.
It was a tense wait as everyone waited for the scores to come in and gradually she moved up the leader board to the top spot as her rival’s second lap scores increased. As the results became apparent, Becky and the team were overjoyed to take her first ever world round victory.
The second day was a mixed day for Becky, as winner of the previous day she set off last away, some sections had become easier and some deteriorated as loose soil and rocks started to kick up. Becky rode well again but made some mistakes in the more difficult sections which cost her too many marks and she had to settle for second on day two. It was still a good weekend’s work for Becky though as her first and second placing’s put her at the top of the 2013 Women’s
World Championship standings.
"It’s been a fantastic weekend for me, to take my first ever victory and come away with the championship lead. I really enjoyed the event and I’ve shown that I can still mix it with the top
ladies in the world and I will train hard in the following months ready for the remaining rounds to give me the best possible chance of victory. Massive thanks to my minder Craig for doing a top job and Miton Top Trial Team for preparing me an awesome bike"
Becky will be back home competing in the second round of the British Ladies Championship this coming weekend.
