BARRAGAN SMOKES COMPETITION AT SPANISH ENDURO RND 2

Gas Gas Factory’s newest recruit Jonathan Barragan tops the overall standings in the second round of the Spanish Enduro Championship in Vinaros

Sitting in the northern part of Valencia, the city of Vinaros welcomed riders with a terrain that was still wet from the heavy rains of the past few days. To avoid any trouble, the organisers made a last-minute decision to change some parts of the tracks allowing the race to take place without any issues.

Organisers had set three special tests for the day. There was a short special test on the deep sands of the Fora Forat beach and two other tests on the motocross tracks of Vinaros and Triaguera.

Riding his two-stroke Gas Gas EC 300, Barragan fought all the way to the end to celebrate his first win in the overall standings and his second consecutive win in E3 class. He topped Yamaha’s Cristobal Guerrero for a bit less than seven seconds in the overall standings.

But that’s been Guerrero’s best performance so far in 2015, proving that the experienced Spaniard is getting on good terms with his new Yamaha WR250F.

Sherco’s Lorenzo Santolino grabbed the final place on the podium in the overall standings, while also finishing as a runner-up in E1 behind Guerrero.

Husqvarna’s Jaume Betriu couldn’t repeat the winning performance he gave at the opening round. After a strong start in the day, Betriu had to settle for fourth overall. The Husqvarna rider won the E2 class.

With time running out for the start of the World Championship on 17th April, Ivan Cervantes hasn’t fully recovered from his early season shoulder injury. The four-time EWC champ was ninth overall and second in E3.

The next round of the Spanish Enduro Championship will take place on 25th/26th April in Santiago de Compostela.
