Since the GP of Portugal, Beta’s Johnny Aubert has been struggling to overcome a back injury he sustained in a nasty crash.
Forced to pull out of both the GP of Greece and Italy tests and scans finally revealed that Aubert has in fact a non-displaced fracture of his L5 vertebra.

I did not give you too much news this past few weeks, but since my crash in Portugal I have tried to find solutions and answers to my painful back.
I went in Greece, but I had to stop after the super test. Exams made after the race show that I have a damaged disk between L1 and L2 vertebras.
I decided to try and race the GP of Italy before proceeding to injections, which need 2 weeks of rest. There wasn’t enough time between Greece and Italy to start this.
But anti-inflammatory tablets and painkillers were not enough and despite a nice super test on Friday night, it was really hard to finish the first lap on Saturday. I had excruciating pain in my back and I had to stop racing. That’s why I went in emergency to visit a rheumatologist on Tuesday at the Clinic du Parc in Lyon.
I have broken my L5 vertebra. It’s a non-displaced fracture that we can’t see on X-ray and not very well on MRI.
This means I can’t make any physical activity for 1 month. So I’m sad to announce that I won’t be at the GP of Belgium. I wish to the race organisation and riders a really nice GP.
