The second Hard Enduro of the year hit’s British shores when The Tough One heads to the legendary Hawkstone Park in Shropshire on Easter Saturday, April 19. Due to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Enduro21.com takes a look at The Tough One’s Win List…
From its humble beginnings in 2005, the event grew quickly to become one of the world’s biggest Hard Enduro events. Staged at the formidable Nantmawr Quarry in January, the race only moved once in 2011 to Back Cowyn Quarry near Manchester before returning back to Nantmawr.
2005
David Knight secures win #1 at the inaugural running of The Tough One. Keeping it in the family his brother Juan joins him on the podium with Edward Jones third.
1st – David Knight (KTM)
2nd – Juan Knight (Gas Gas)
3rd – Edward Jones (KTM)

2006
For the second edition of the race favourite Knight is given a handicap to try and level the field. Forced to run up a hill just to reach his bike, Knight not only catches and passes everyone but finishes one lap clear of the field as the race ends in darkness. Grabbing his first taste of Hard Enduro action Sherco mounted Graham Jarvis is fourth.
1st – David Knight (KTM)
2nd – Wayne Braybrook (Honda)
3rd – Euan Mcconnell (TM)

2007
International interest in the race grows with Kari Tiainen, Anders Eriksson and Glenn Kearney all competing but no one can hold a candle to Knight. Making the event his own Knight bags his third straight victory, extending his lead further as the race finishes in the dark.
1st – David Knight (KTM)
2nd – Wayne Braybrook (Gas Gas)
3rd – Paul Edmondson (Suzuki)

2008
Knight appears to have some serious competition with Taddy Blazusiak weighing into the mix. But a nine-minute win ensures David captures an incredible fourth consecutive victory at Nantmawr. Notable finishes by Cyril Despres in seventh and Gordon Crockard in eighth.
1st – David Knight (KTM)
2nd – Taddy Blazusiak (KTM)
3rd – Wayne Braybrook (Gas Gas)

2009
Knight’s win streak is finally broken as Blazusiak takes his first and only The Tough One victory. Despite an early lead the Manxman only lasts two laps on his BMW G 450 X due to a fried clutch. Tom Sagar delivers Husaberg their first Tough One podium with second while Wayne Braybrook records his fourth top three result.
1st – Taddy Blazusiak (KTM)
2nd – Tom Sagar (Husaberg)
3rd – Wayne Braybrook (Gas Gas)

2010
Back on a KTM and it’s business as usual for Knight. His fifth win cements him as the most successful rider in the history of the event but it’s also the last time he competes in the race. Suzuki mounted Sagar is runner-up with Dougie Lampkin third.
1st – David Knight (KTM)
2nd – Tom Sagar (Suzuki)

2nd – Wayne Braybrook (Sherco)
3rd – Ben Hemingway (KTM)

2013
The last ever Tough One at Nantmawr victory goes to Jarvis as he records his hat trick of wins. Surprisingly 2013 was Jonny Walker’s first ride at The Tough One and despite giving chase early on was forced to settle for second. Danny McCanney puts on a charge in the final 30 minutes of the race to pass a fading Bolton and take third.
