Cody Webb Takes Debut EnduroCross Win In Denver
Beta’s Cody Webb recorded his debut AMA EnduroCross Championship win with victory at round four of the series in Denver, Colorado. Taddy Blazusiak and Taylor Robert rounded out the podium.
It seems like it’s been a long time coming but Cody Webb finally kept it all together during an endurocross main event to win. Setting the second fastest time in qualification, Webb earned the second gate pick for the final behind Honda’s Colton Haaker with Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert third.
With Haaker claiming the holeshot, Webb slotted himself into second position. Breaking clear of the pack, the duo fought it out at the front of the field until Haaker crashed in the rock pile on lap seven. Forcing his way to the front, the Beta rider then held off a late charge by Blazusiak to claim the win.
Following a disastrous qualification, which resulted in him starting from the second row of the gate, championship leader Mike Brown (KTM) rounded the first lap in fourth behind Blazusiak. He then went on to pass his rival and worked his way into second position when Haaker crashed.
Fighting back, Blazusiak took control of the runner-up position on lap eight and set about closing the gap to Webb. But with time running out, he crossed the line four seconds behind in second position.
Unable to keep with his KTM rival during the final stages of the race, Brown was later caught and passed by Robert on the final lap and lost out on the podium result, while Haaker recovered for fifth.
With Blazusiak finishing second and Brown fourth, Blazusiak now trails championship leader Brown by three points.
The AMA EnduroCross Championship continues with round five in Everett, Washington on October 26.
