Marking the opening round of the 2014 British Extreme Enduro Championship, Knight led home a field of world-class riders to claim the win. Taking control of the race lead from lap one, the Sherco rider stayed out front for the entire race.
Tong, UK was the stage for 2014’s first major outdoor Hard Enduro (Eddy’s Extreme) where David Knight won ahead of Graham Jarvis and Danny McCanney.
But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Manxman as Knight explains….
“My start and first hour of the race went good, I managed to pull a good few minutes lead. I then pitted for fuel and my quick fill device broke, spilling more fuel on me than in the bike.
“We lost a good 30-40 seconds there and I started panicking, which resulted in a few mistakes and crashes. Graham closed right in on me with half an hour to go. I managed to refocus and dig deep to take the win!”
Finishing behind Knight and testing the waters on his Husqvarna FE 350 – Graham Jarvis placed second. Suffering from arm pump early on in the race Jarvis lost too much time to take full advantage of David’s misfortunes. And despite his gamble of opting not to pit for fuel, the Husqvarna rider had to settle for runner up spot.
Daniel McCanney was pleased with his third place result but felt he made too many small crashes early on to keep on the back of Knighter and Jarvis.
Close behind the leading trio, Paul Bolton and Ben Hemingway placed fourth and fifth respectively.
With the course consisting of damp British woodland in the middle of January, combined with some steep hill climbs, sketchy descents, rock gardens and an icy waterfall to contend with, Eddy’s Xtreme was the perfect hard enduro to kick start the 2014 season!
