Injury Blow For Salvini

Enduro 2 World Champion Alex Salvini has been dealt a blow in the lead up to the 2014 season by injuring his thumb in training.

Falling during training, it was initially thought that the Italian had sprained his left thumb. But was time progressed it worsened.

After a medical examination it was revealed that he had in fact suffered a small fracture and damage to a ligament.

“It was a minor slip, which is why I did not even bother that much,” explained Salvini. “But with each passing day the pain is increased.”

In order to speed up healing in time for the opening round of the EWC in Spain on April 5/6, the Honda rider underwent surgery to correct the problem. And although it’s expected Salvini will make the start of the GP of Spain, he must stay off his bike until then.

“It’s a real shame to have to accept a forced stop of 23 days so soon before the start of the season, but I’d rather struggle during the first two races and be 100% for the rest of the season. With the aid of an orthopaedic brace I’ll race in Spain.”
