PRICE READY TO CHASE FOURTH AORC CROWN
The opening round of the 2015 Australian Off-Road Championship gets underway this weekend and it’s KTM’s Toby Price who’s looking to make a successful start to the defence of his crown.
After what’s been a huge off-season for Price racing the Dakar Rally, it’s now back to the regular grind as he chases his fourth AORC title.
Knowing that there’s a long year of racing ahead, the KTM rider – favouring the bigger 500 EXC – isn’t feeling the pressure of making it a winning start but if the chance of victory arises he’s keen to grasp it with both hands.
“I’m looking forward to coming back on the 500 EXC and hopefully we can make a good start to the season,” told Price. “There’s a long way to go and you don’t win it at the first round, but it’s also nice to kick off the season with a win, so we’ll see what the weekend brings.
“I love the 500 EXC – it’s definitely a lot of bike – but it’s cut down a lot in weight, and KTM is definitely making a good motorcycle. I like a bit of power and I’m a bit of a bigger guy so it seems to suit me well.
“Like any bike it has its advantages and disadvantages at certain tracks. The best part is there’s just plenty of power and as long as you keep clicking gears it just wants to go faster and faster, so it’s a thrill to ride. We have mellowed mine out a little bit for bush racing, but it’s still got really good top end there.”
“I’m looking forward to getting back into the bush. The track is fast and dusty but will be fun. Like I said, it’s a long season and won’t be won at the first round but it would be nice to start it off that way with a win – we’ll see what the weekend brings!
The opening round of the AORC takes place at Kilkivan, Queensland this weekend.
