R.I.P. Kurt Caselli

It’s with great sadness Enduro21.com has learned that Kurt Caselli has suffered a fatal accident during his participation in this year’s Baja 1000.

It’s believed – although an official statement has yet to be released from event officials – that Caselli crashed within 100 miles of the finish line due to a spectator ‘booby-trap’ setup on the course. He was leading the race at the time of the accident.

Caselli was immediately flown to hospital in Ensenada with serious head trauma but succumbed to his injuries en route.

Although desert racing was his first love, Kurt was also making a successful transition into rally racing. Stepping in as a late replacement for Marc Coma, he achieved a life long dream of winning a stage of the Dakar Rally in 2013. January 2014 should have seen Kurt make his start in the event as an official rider for the KTM Rally team.

As a close friend of Enduro21.com, we morn the loss of our fallen friend. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

RIP Kurt
