Sagar & McCanney Win Knighton BEC

Tom Sagar and Jamie McCanney shared top honours at round four of the British Enduro Championship in Knighton, Wales…
After a two-month break the BEC returned to competitive action for the fourth round of the series in Wales. Hot weather and dusty trails combined with two special tests – cross and enduro – made for a competitive weekend of racing.
As the current championship leader, it was KTM mounted Sagar that led the field of 116 riders away on day one. Instantly getting to grips with the terrain, Sagar posted the fastest time on the opening special test. But at the midway point in the day, Sagar faced a tough challenge from Husaberg’s Jamie McCanney. Closing in on his KTM rival, McCanney reduced the gap to Sagar. But despite posting the fastest time in the eighth and final special test, Sagar still held on to take the win.
Placing less than two-seconds behind, McCanney ended day one as runner-up. Making his first appearance in the BEC, Paul Edmondson (Honda) showed that he’d lost none of his speed and finished third. Ending his day just one second behind Edmondson, Honda’s Jamie Lewis was fourth. Completing the top five, KTM’s Steve Holcombe also topped the Enduro 1 4t class. Returned from his Red Bull Romaniacs trip, KTM’s Jonny Walker was sixth and first of the Enduro 3 class.
McCanney took his first BEC win on day two…
On day two the battle for the overall win continued between McCanney and Sagar. Bettering Sagar by one second on the opening test, McCanney immediately took control of the race lead. Setting the fastest time in the first four tests, the Manxman opened up a 19-second lead over Sagar. Taking the fifth special test Sagar closed the gap to McCanney but the Husaberg rider immediately responded and upped his pace again. Winning the final two tests of the weekend, McCanney claimed his debut BEC victory.
With Sagar ending day two as runner-up to McCanney, Lewis improved one position to take fourth. Holcombe placed fourth overall to top the E1 4t classification with Mark Roberts (KTM) completing the top five. Claiming another top six result Walker also secured the E3 class win.
